Last Century an elderly couple in the south of Tasmania began pickling onions. Popularity of their product spread and a cottage industry was developed.

As the years passed by, the circle of appreciative connoisseurs grew. The business flourished, expanding greatly with the change in ownership in 1966.

The expansion led to the need for large scale onion growing to be developed in the 1970's. The variety "Cream Gold" was selected, a crisp, crunchy and particularly tasty onion.

It was found to be especially suited to the fertile, rich red, volcanic soils and cool climate of Tasmania. Demand for this quality Tasmanian product continues to increase and Blue Banner produces pickled onions to the traditional mouth watering recipe for shipment Australia wide and export overseas.

Rosella Foods acquired the Blue Banner brand in 2007. We continue to source the same great Tasmanian onions and pickle them using the same great recipe in our Sydney factory.
